last run of 2006 - 7 km

Well, running today was much better than yesterday, but only because I ran so slow that I managed to keep my breathing under control while still being sorta sick. I ran 7 km and it took me 51 minutes. I can run 8 km in that time. It's all good though, I'm sick.

We end this month and I ran 106 km, 1 km more than in Nov. If I hadn't gotten sick it would have been much higher, but that I was able to keep it this high is quite and accomplishment to me. I'm happy about that.

2006 ends and I ran 881 km. Here are a few things I've noticed:
That's 1.9 times the length of Israel (very very cool).
The most running I've done in a month is actually Dec. and the most running I've done in a week was also in Dec. (thanks to long runs).
The distance a month has been pretty much growing steadily since march (Feb was a hard month for me with school and being sick).

All in all, I think I'm doing pretty good, especially considering how busy this semester is. The truth is, if I didn't run on the weekend my weekends would be nothing but schoolwork and I would be miserable.

5 km running sick

This week pretty much sucked. I'm sick, this time for real too. I actually went home early on Sunday (which is so rare it only happened once in the 2005-2006 school year). This made me skip my mid week run. The week felt so long without it, and I was so looking forward to running today and tomorrow. Running today wasn't much fun. I only did 5 km, and I actually had to stop and catch my breath several times. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. I feel like I should run anyway, even if it's only 5 km with stops because I don't want to have to fall back to short runs once I'm feeling better. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I'm really looking for that 16 km run, but it keeps getting farther and farther away.

PEI marathon

The PEI Marathon is listed for Oct 12-14 2007. I haven't a clue what that means exactly, but I don't think it's going to take me 3 days to run it, even if I start running with my training being as it is right now. I'd like an actual date though, as the first semester of next year starts on Oct 14 2007. I still don't know if I can do it or not, but this will also have to factor into consideration. Besides the fact that I'm having a really hard semester and that next semester shouldn't be any better, and also that the course looks like it's kinda hilly towards the end (and that scares me). We shall see.

Fish run in Santa Barbara - and 8 km

http://www.communityenvironmentalcouncil.org/Events/SteelheadFestival/SRun/SR_bearunner.cfm

They've got a statue and everything.

Looks like a nice route too. Near the beach and along a bird refuge. It's probably super humid, but also really beautiful.

~

Yeah, only 8km, even though I felt fine for the first 7.5 km. They I started coughing and I had to stop. Ok time though, 53.5 minutes.

6 km

Logging into this thing is annoying, but I don't want it to remember me because then when I search on google they can collect statistics about me. "Ah yes, she looks up chemicals, water purification methods and for screencaps of 'Battlestar Galactica'". They probably collect information anyway, but I feel better when I'm logged out and surfing.

Yesterday's run was ok. It was a short one again, since I'm still coughing a lot and it makes it a bit hard to breath. My pace was much better than on Thursday morning though. 38 minutes for 6 km, and not 45 minutes for 6.4 km.

Today is supposed to be a long run. 15 or 16 km were planned, but I think I'll stick with 10 and left myself rest. This cough sucks but I can't not run.

When I was running this morning, every time I ran past a street light it went out. I felt like Dumbledore running down Privet Drive.

6.4 km

My lazy self desperately tried to convince me not to go running today. When the alarm clock rang she told me to go back to bed, but my wanna-be-a-runner self knew better and told me "you're already awake, just get up". So I did. Then my lazy self tried to stop me from running saying "it's cold outside" but my wanna-be-a-runner self said "take gloves", and I did. I wasn't really cold outside, and I didn't really need gloves, but I took them just to comfort myself. It was fun running in gloves though, I had to use my nose to change the volume on my ipod. Lucky thing no one was outside to see me. My lazy self tried to explain that I shouldn't run, that I've got a cold. My wanna-be-a-runner self quickly walked me over to the living room and gave me a tissue.

My wanna-be-a-runner self won the battle and I did go running. It was nice out, I got to watch it get light out. Usually my legs bother me during morning runs, but today it was my lungs (I actually do sort of have a cold), so I ran a little slower. 6.4 km in 45 minutes. That's ok.
I have to go to leave for school in 5 minutes tops, but my lazy self is trying to convince me to stay home. Luckily my wanna-be-a-chemist (who also goes by the name of goodie-two-shoes self) won't allow it. "Tomorrow is Friday" she says, "you can stay home tomorrow."

15 km

I ran 15 km today (9.3 miles) . It took me 1 hour and 53 minutes, which is much longer than it should have, but I had a whole lotta things go wrong for me today. I don't think I've had such a bad long run in weeks. Suffice to say that dry weather (which makes you thirsty) and not waiting long enough after eating (which makes you feel like you're gonna puke) do not go together nicely. And our town is so annoying. There isn't one working water fountain. I went looking for a place to drink, but found nothing, so I had to stop at home to drink. Next week will be better damn it. I'll do 15 again and it won't be so bad.

15 km

I ran 15km again today. My time was a lot better than it was last week, but it's obviously slower than when I run shorter distances. Oh well, that's to be expected I suppose. Anyway, I felt better, and I wasn't too bored running around town because PotterCast was really interesting this week. My time was 1 hour and 47 minutes. I can't believe that I can run so much and so far. I can't believe that I've been running for almost two years now. I find it all quite amazing. I've already run 75 km this month, and I've still got half a month of running left. Way cool.

14 km

Ok, lets talk running and numbers.

I just got back from a 14 km run (that's 8.7 miles for most of you) It took me 1 hour 35 minutes and 37 seconds, which is a pretty good pace for me, for such a long run. It wasn't that bad. The only thing was that I got bored running in circles. I need to mix it up a bit. My GPS watch knows how much I weigh, but only cause I told it, and it does this weird sorta calculation and figures out how many calories I burnt (depending on time, speed and my weight - I don't know the actual calculation). Anyway, it said I burnt almost 950 calories - that's so crazy. I don't run to loose weight, but I have been loosing some more lately. I think it's the mixture of high milage during the month and also being at school. Whatever, I run for fun.

I'm up to 99 km (61 miles) this month alone, and I can't wait till Mon (or Tue) when I pass 100. I've never run more than 100 km in a month. Sep and Oct I only just barely got to 97.
I got my GPS watch on Nov 17 2005 - one year and one week later and I've run 769 km (478 miles).

I'm feeling good - my monthly milage is up, my monthly pace is down - go me!

7 km

I had such a long day. Oh, it was horrible. I spent all day doing nothing but homework. Except for 40 minutes of tv I watched while eating lunch, I didn't do anything else. And guess what, I've still got more than a whole day's worth to do tomorrow. If I start listing what I have to do I'll just make myself miserable. I think I'll have to get up early tomorrow and get started.

The only good thing about today was that I went running. I only did 7 km, but I couldn't keep going because everyone was waiting for me to eat dinner. I go for my long run tomorrow. I think I'll do 12km again, even though I could possibly do 13km. I'll see how I feel. It feels unnatural to go on such long runs when I don't hardly run during the week, but I can't fit another weekly run in. There just isn't anywhere to put it without exhausting myself even more.

12 km

I went on a long run today. I did 12 km. I was slow and it took me close to 90 minutes. It feels weird to be running so much one day and running less than 60 minutes on other days, but that is the nature of the long run. I just need to run a little bit more during the week. I'm doing all right keeping up my running so far. I just hope I can keep it up once the winter really starts. Already I'm cold when running. It's mostly my neck that gets cold because of all the sweat.

My first race

I ran the Ramat Gan Safari race 8K today. It's called that because you run about 2K through the zoo, which is called "Ramat Gan Safari". I saw two kinds of elephants (African and Asian), giraffes (I think the running made them nervous), gorillas, chimpanzees and a lot of apes (lemurs and some others I can't remember their names).

So, this was my first run, and it was quite the experience. I was so nervous and intimidated by everyone, but it turned out fine. My time was 51:29.40, I came in towards the end (as I expected) 539 out of 581 and 18 out of 25 in my age group (20 to 39). Actually, there weren't that many women there, but I expect that's because there was also a women only race going on today in Rosh Ha'Ain.

I know that compared to a lot of people, I'm slow, but I'm really happy with my time. I only really started trying to run a bit faster one month ago (before that I just ran at a nice slow pace - just to enjoy myself). My 8K record up until today was 53 minutes, and I did that when it was nice and cool out one evening. I didn't expect to beat that time today, because running in the morning/sun makes it really hard for me. All I wanted was to beat 56 minutes (my best time for 8K in the morning/sun).

I'm very pleased with myself today. I'm gonna wear my race tshirt to school on Sunday :)
